Just as I did with Jameson, I was dreading this appointment. Nothing is worse than watching pain inflicted on your child. But, I am also a big advocate of vaccinations, so I knew I just had to mentally prepare myself for it! It was getting close to nap time, so I was a little nervous how she would do during the appointment, but she did great! She weighed in at 13 pounds 6 ounces (32 percentile) and was 23.5 inches long (78 percentile). Her head was 15.5 inches (71 percentile). I am not sure, but I think the percentiles may have been mixed up - I don't think she could possibly only be in the 32nd percentile for weight! Maybe the head and weight got switched??
Anyway, she wasn't a fan of having her ears looked at, but besides that, she cooperated wonderfully! Dr. Emm was quite impressed with her alertness, head control and strength. He said she was acting more like a 3-4 month year old. He also said this is quite common with the second child, but then you have to worry about their speech development because sometimes that is stunted being the second kid. Since Jameson is such a talker, I could see this being the case...she may not be able to get in a word with him! Our homework until the 4 month appointment is to continue working on her following sounds, voices, people, etc. And, the big thing was he suggested moving her out of our room now...nooooo! Darin was quite happy about that, but I don't think I am quite ready for her to "move out"! But, it probably makes sense to try it out since she basically sleeps through the night. But, I just find it comforting having her next to me, so maybe we will wait just a little bit longer!
OK, back to the appointment. Once Dr. Emm was done, we knew it was time for the dreaded shots! The nurse came in and my stomach dropped. We laid her down and the nurse gave her the oral rotavirus first. She actually gulped that down and was kind of upset when it was gone!! Then came the pricks - she had three different shots to get, some of which were combined with different vaccinations. She was not too pleased when the first jab occurred and then got progressively more upset as they continued. But, it was quick and I picked her up and nursed her to calm her down. She was asleep before we got out of the doctor's office! She slept soundly on me basically the rest of the afternoon. When she woke up, she was her normal happy self most of the evening - she had a screaming fit at one point and I gave her more Tylenol, which seemed to help. We swaddled, she nursed and then once she went down for the night, she slept 11 peaceful hours!! Woke up the next morning happy as can be - phew!
