Wow, these two weeks flew by. I decided to wait and do a bi-weekly update since we have been nice and busy adjusting to everything!
- At your 2 (and a half!) week appointment, you weighed in at 9 pounds (75%). I am so happy that you seem to be growing like a weed, thanks to mommy! You also grew quite a bit, but we all know that the height measuring is not exactly perfect at this stage! But, you were 21.5 inches (90%). Your little head was perfect at 13 3/4 inches (50%), which was the same as before. The doctor said you are perfect and healthy.
- We moved up to size 1 diapers just a few days ago, but that's just because we didn't have any sensitive newborn diapers and it appears that your little bottom may be allergic to other types of diapers. I tried a 0-3 month outfit and you were swimming in it, but you seem to be getting almost too long for newborn sleepers! Good thing it's summer and we have newborn dresses and short outfits! I hope you won't have the same issue as Mommy when it comes to finding pants long enough!!
- I noticed some very light blond highlights under your dark hair last week...wonder if you will become a blondie too! But, I have to say I am quite jealous that you have beautiful natural blond highlights at the ripe old age of 3 weeks!
- Your eyes are still very blue, albeit a darker blue. I am sure they will turn brown like your Daddy and brother, but they are definitely lighter than Jameson's were at this stage.
- During week 2, your Daddy and I were a little worried you may have a mild form of reflux just because you seem to be much happier when you are upright as opposed to laying flat. But, then we also came to the conclusion during week 3 that we may have encountered the dreaded C word...COLIC! You seem to be most unhappy from about 9-11 at night. It's almost like you are already putting up a fight to go to sleep! We walk with you and try to rock you, which sometimes helps, but we mostly just hold you until you are done screaming at us and then you pass out! Your Daddy is the swaddle master though and gets you all good and swaddled and is very good about walking around with you until you pass out! The good thing is that some nights, that means you will sleep 3-4.5 solid hours. The bad news is, it is rough to deal with hearing you scream for 20-30 minute periods. I feel so helpless and the only thing that seems to make you quiet down sometimes is feeding you. I don't mind doing that, but I doubt you are actually hungry every time I do that! But, whatever works and I guess you wouldn't eat if you didn't want to (I think!). And, who knows, it may just be that you like to put up one last fight before falling asleep. You aren't unhappy the entire 2 hours...just here and there and maybe you're just tired. Or it may just be a growth spurt since you did grow a ton!! Whatever it is, I hope it goes away for all of our sakes :). Luckily, Jameson sleeps right through it all!
- As far as sleeping at night goes, you are a mystery! Some nights, you are up every couple of hours to eat and will go right back down. Other nights, I have to hold you while we sleep. And, other nights, you will sleep 4-5 hours in one stretch, wake up to eat and go right back to sleep for another 3-4 hours. We never know what the night will bring - guess that's the fun of it!
- During the day, you have become pretty alert and don't necessarily want to sleep! Some days, you will sleep like a newborn (most of the day). Other days, you take 20-30 minute cat naps and then are awake for hours. The other day in a 24 hour period, you only slept for 14 hours. You are supposed to be sleeping 18-20 hours a day! But, then yesterday, you slept for 2.5 hours in the pack n play. So, who knows! You typically eat every 1.5-3 hours.
- You do have quite a bad diaper rash right now - not sure if you are allergic to the diapers or wipes or what. But, I feel so awful because it's so red. I can't imagine that feels too good, so I think that may be contributing to your outbursts too.
- As I said two weeks ago, you are so strong!! You can now totally lift your head up and turn it from side to side. I remember Jameson being able to do that too, but it still amazes me to see you do that this early.
- You are also super close to being able to roll over. It may just be your reflexes allowing you to move like that, but regardless, you were halfway rolled over last week while playing on your mat. You were just kicking and moving away until you managed to get yourself on your side. You may have kept trying, but you were getting unhappy, so I picked you up!
- You stick your tongue out a lot...even when sleeping. It's so cute!
- Oh those sleep smiles, I just cannot get enough! So adorable! But, I swear you gave me a real smile a week or so ago. You were doing this silly head cocking thing while in my arms and I started laughing and called you goofy and I swear you looked up at me a smiled. Eyes were wide open and it didn't look like a gas smile either! And, then on 8/28, I swear you smiled at your big brother!! Probably can't count it quite yet...but I have a feeling those smiles are just around the corner!
I also wanted to give the history of your middle name, since it is a family name! My Great Great Grandma's name was Suzanne. She basically raised my Grandma, so my Grandma named my Mom Deborah Sue. So, although we loved the way Sue sounded with Gwendolyn, we also wanted to honor my Mom, your Grandma Debbie! And, I didn't realize that it went back that far - so your Great Great Great Grandma is being honored too! Just a little family history!
Love you, baby girl!
