1 Week Old!!

Ahh, here we go again with me getting all weepy because time is going to fast...and she is only a week old! I can't imagine how I will be when she hits one month! What a week it's been though - she is an amazing little baby. She is a bit dramatic when she gets upset, but other than that, she is very content. As for me, I am feeling awesome - it's either because 1) the recovery on a repeat c section is easier, 2) I just don't remember how my recovery was last time or 3) I have two kids to watch after now, so I don't even think about it!! Whatever the reason is, I am thankful that I feel so great and am able to attend to both my kiddos as much as I possibly can. Plus, my parents and mother-in-law have been amazing with helping us all get settled and bringing us yummy meals, which makes things so much easier for all of us. We are so fortunate to have them!

  • When we left the hospital, she was down to 7 pounds. Two days later when we went to the doctor, she was back up to 7lb. 4oz (50%). Apparently, she shrunk because she measured in at 20 inches (75%). Her head was 13 3/4 (75%), which I think seems bigger that it really is because she has a peanut head just like Jameson! Everything looked perfect at the doctor appointment. We go back in a few weeks.
  • She is most definitely wearing newborn diapers and newborn clothes. The 0-3 month stuff is huge on her. Even the newborn diapers and newborn onesies are a bit big!
  • She sleeps for 2-4 hours at a time during the day and then is awake anywhere from a half hour to and hour and a half.  She is very content when she is awake as long as her needs are met. She will "play" around on her gym mat and she loves to look around. She does get a little dramatic in her cries, but most of the time, she just needs to get the "wind" out of her!
  • It's still up in the air how the nights will go. The first night in the hospital, I was pretty much feeding her every 1-2 hours. The next night, she slept for almost 4.5 hours in the bassinet. It's been like that at home too. The first night home, she was up quite a bit and then the next night, she slept for 3.5 hours in her bassinet and then 4.5 hours in my arms! We have really only had one night where she slept all night in her bassinet (waking up twice to eat). The other nights, she starts out in the bassinet and will usually sleep with me for a few hours and then ends up back in her bassinet. I don't mind - I love the middle of the night snuggles. And, she honestly falls right back to sleep after I feed her and we change her, so it's not too tough!
  • She loves to be swaddled. She sleeps like a rock when she is swaddled.
  • She doesn't really take a plug, which I am OK with! She will sometimes take it when she is really tired and almost asleep, but usually spits it out before she falls asleep.
  • She nurses like a champ, for which I am thankful! I was hoping it would be as easy this time around too and hope it continues to go well.
  • She is one strong little girl. She loves to lift up her head - her neck muscles are strong! She will honestly lift her head off our chests and look around.
  • Along the same lines of strength- the first day in the hospital, I looked over at her in the bassinet and she was on her side. I asked Darin if he did that and he said no. I am not sure how she managed because she was swaddled, but that is not the first time I have found her on her side while she is sleeping!
  • She has already learned to grasp things...like my hair!! She can also grab the rings on the gym mat. My guess is it is just luck, but I was still pretty amazed. And, her grip is tight!!! I love when she grabs my finger...I don't want her to let go!
  • She seems to prefer to curl up and cross her little legs. I guess that is probably how she was in my tummy. It's pretty darn adorable.
  • She hiccups and sneezes A LOT! Dr. Emm said it's just reflexes at this point in time and doesn't bother babies. But, I swear sometimes she is going to hiccup right off the floor because they are so loud and strong!
  • She got her first sponge bath before her newborn photo shoot and did wonderfully - didn't make a peep!
  • I have been catching the "sleep smiles" here and there. I love it. So adorable!!
  • I forgot just how amazing it is to hold a newborn. Their warm little bodies are so cuddly. Their sweet little breath is heavenly. The adorable faces they make while sleeping is pure entertainment. Their sweet little noises are heart warming. Seems like just yesterday I was enjoying all of this with Jameson. So, I am making sure to not let a moment go by where I am not relishing it.
